Apple’s retail reopening plan: Temperature checks, mandatory masks and 25 stores to reopen this week

Apple released its blueprint for how it will reopen its stores once it is safe to due so. It will also reopen 25 stores in the U.S. this week.

Customers will be required to submit to a temperature check and wear a mask before entering the store, according to the guidelines written by Apple’s retail and human resources chief Deirdre O’Brien. If a customer doesn’t have a mask, Apple will provide them with one.

Customers will also be screened for other symptoms caused by Covid-19, like a cough. Apple said occupancy will be limited in stores, and employees will be focused on “one-on-one, personalized service.”

After weeks of telling residents to stay indoors, L.A. officials this week started easing strict stay-at-home rules.

But Angelenos desperate to return to the beaches, mountains and trails as summer approaches, just learned there is a catch. Both city and county officials said residents must wear face coverings when going outdoors.

The rules apply “any time you’re out and there are people around, whether it be at a trail head or a parking lot or a sidewalk,” Barbara Ferrer, Los Angeles County’s director of public health, said Thursday.

Chris Blakeslee, Bella’s president, says industry manufacturers should protect themselves by following guidelines in the FDA’s emergency use authorization for face masks.

In a matter of a few weeks, Bella + Canvas (asi/39590) has become one of the largest producers of cloth face masks, and the apparel supplier has been working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to make sure it’s following the proper guidelines.

“We’re making 100 million masks a week now,” says Chris Blakeslee, president of Bella + Canvas. “Early on, we were very involved with the White House coronavirus task force. At one point, the government was thinking of sending five-packs of face coverings to everyone in the U.S.”

The executive order will take effect after a three-day grace period, Cuomo said at his daily news conference in Albany.

Should you wear a mask during the coronavirus pandemic? The city of Laredo, Texas, has decided that yes, you do. And if you don’t wear one, they could fine you.

The city’s emergency mandate, which went into effect on April 2, states that every person over the age of five must wear “some form of covering over their nose and mouth” when using public transportation, taxis, ride shares, pumping gas or when inside a building open to the public. That face covering can include a homemade mask, scarf, bandana or handkerchief. The penalty for violating the order is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine up to $1,000.
